As a school district that values diversity, we believe Black History should be celebrated 365 days a year — 366 in a leap year. The diverse histories, experiences, stories and voices of Black people should be recognized, honored, and uplifted every day.
To get the ideas flowing, check out our updated San Francisco Unified School District Black History Month Resource Guide. This guide is a compilation of resources that educators can incorporate into units and lessons throughout the year.
In closing I want to wish a Happy Lunar New Year and Gong Hei Fat Choy to everyone who is celebrating! In this year of the Tiger, let’s live our shared SFUSD value of fearlessness!

Celebrating SFUSD School Counselors
February 7-11, 2022 is National School Counseling Week, a time to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors. National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.
Here at SFUSD, we know that school counselors are an essential part of the school community. SFUSD has a central office, the Office of Counseling and Post-Secondary Success, that advocates to bring the work that our 140 site school counselors do everyday to the forefront, and empowers counselors to lead their work and become more visible in their school communities.

At this time there is not yet an open state grant application though one is anticipated in the coming weeks. Once it is available, SFUSD stands ready to apply on behalf of our schools if they meet the eligibility requirements specified in the grant. Learn more in the SFUSD Employee portal.
