SFUSD Insider - April 2021 |
|
Dear SFUSD Colleagues,
George Floyd’s death at the hands of a police officer in May of last year sparked our ongoing movement for racial justice. Today and every day, we recognize that Black Lives Matter and SFUSD is dedicated to providing an education for each and every student that contributes to an anti-racist, fair, and just society. We invite our staff, students and families to continue engaging in dialogue about the relationship between white supremacy, white privilege, racism and police violence in a developmentally and socially responsive way. We continue to share resources with educators to hold a space for all of the feelings and thoughts related to current events.
Thank you for all that you're doing in support of students during this time.
Warmly,
Dr. Matthews

SFUSD School Librarians Get Creative During Pandemic |
|
April is School Libraries Month and we celebrate our teacher librarians all year long. At SFUSD, all of our school librarians are credentialed teachers who plan diverse learning experiences to inspire equitable, active student participation.
During the past year, school librarians have shifted their roles to meet the students’ distance learning needs: providing literacy instruction to small groups of students, creating video tutorials to help families access ebooks, and recording read alouds of engaging and culturally responsive books to support classroom instruction. Our librarians have created virtual spaces for students to connect outside of class: clubs for tinkering, crafting, and of course, reading. So far this year, our librarians have mailed over 4,000 books directly to students’ homes. Read more about our SFUSD school librarians.
Thank you to our teacher librarians for everything you do!
