Welcome to the March issue of the SFUSD High School Student Newsletter! We will be sharing resources relevant to high school students across SFUSD the first week of every month. Please reach out with your input at newsline@sfusd.edu if you have any suggestions or comments about this newsletter –– we welcome your ideas. 
Free College Prep Workshops
Study Smart is hosting free workshops on resume building, SAT prep, mindfulness, and college planning through the SF Public Library. Registration is limited to 25 students per workshop.
Free Financial Mentoring
MyPath US offers 18 to 24-year-old SF residents free coaching to getting connected with safe bank accounts and financial mentoring (combination of financial coaching, financial counseling, and support with banking, saving and credit building). Leadership Youth Program for 9th-11th Grade Students
Coro’s Exploring Leadership Youth Program is a fully virtual summer program transforming lives and broadening horizons by developing youth to become active citizens and assume leadership roles in their communities. Youth receive leadership training, professional experience, increased understanding of community issues, and a $1,000 stipend. Open to 9th-11th graders. Applications are due March 23, 2021.
Interested in Going to USF After High School?
USF Sophomore College Night (for students and families) Tuesday, March 16, 6 – 7 p.m. and USF Junior College Night (for students and families) Tuesday, March 23, 6 – 7 p.m. are great times to get to know USF plus get college research tips.
Construction Bridge Program - Free Two-Week Virtual Training
This program introduces students to the construction industry and also serves as a pipeline into CityBuild Academy if students are interested in pursuing a career in construction after completing the program. There is a $100 gift card for program completion. Sign up and learn more. Email questions to daniela@brightlinedefense.org.
Scholarship Opportunities
Learn more about local scholarships that are just for Bay Area/SFUSD students on the SFUSD Counseling and Post-Secondary scholarship website. Here are a couple of highlights:
  • Superintendent's 21st Century Awards: 6 students selected, $3,000/each. Deadline extended to March 12.
  • 2021 Mayor Breed's Bridge to Excellence Scholarship Program: $2,500/each, must have minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20, demonstrate significant financial need, and be the first in their family to attend a four-year college. Deadline March 31.
  • Alexandria Scholars: 3 students selected, must pursue a STEM degree at a two or four-year college/university and attend a virtual ceremony on May 3rd, award eligible for up to $5,000 annually or a total of $20,000 for four years. Deadline April 5.
  • UESF Scholarships:  7 students selected, requirements vary, awards range $500-$2,000 depending on scholarship. Deadline April 16.

Apply to CCSF
There are many different opportunities at CCSF that will help you gain career skills, an associate's degree, and/or transfer to a four-year university. This flier walks you through the application process.

Check all your college portals and emails weekly! Your colleges may have to-do items and deadlines to pay attention to.
