Superintendent's Message

Dear SFUSD Families:

Winter Break is just a few short weeks away. Public health officials have sounded the alarm about the rising number of COVID cases and we are being asked to only gather with those we live with, both inside and outside.

These are difficult times for me as I love being together with my extended family over the holidays, but I plan to stick with the health orders. I take solace in knowing that there will be a time again, in the not so distant future, when school buildings will be filled with children laughing and learning.  In fact, we are planning for how to make that happen for some of our students sometime in early 2021. We just shared more details about how we’re preparing with the SF Board of Education. Learn about work in progress in the Return Safely Together plan, including how we are training and testing staff as we prepare for in-person learning.

Warmly,
Dr. Vincent Matthews
