San Francisco (February 13, 2026) - San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) Superintendent Dr. Maria Su announced that SFUSD has reached a tentative agreement with United Educators of San Francisco (UESF). The agreement was signed at 5:30 a.m. today.
On Friday, Feb. 13, UESF and the district concluded bargaining and have tentatively agreed to a two-year agreement, effective July 1, 2025. The terms include salary increases and fully funded family healthcare benefits for UESF employees beginning on Jan. 1, 2027. Additionally, SFUSD will work collaboratively with UESF to make key investments in special education, providing better support for educators and students.
“This is a monumental tentative agreement with the United Educators of San Francisco,” said Dr. Maria Su, SFUSD Superintendent. “This agreement enhances our efforts to recruit and attract talented educators to work in San Francisco public schools and reflects our commitment to invest in educators. I want to thank our bargaining team, UESF President Cassondra Curiel and her entire bargaining team, the San Francisco Board of Education, and Mayor Daniel Lurie for their leadership and support during this process. I know it has been a hard week, and I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to our students and families. We cannot wait to welcome you back to school.”
Since March 2025, SFUSD and UESF have engaged in good faith bargaining and have previously reached tentative agreements on a variety of issues, including sanctuary protections, housing, use of artificial intelligence, and special education contracting. The district continues to prioritize its fiscal recovery efforts to ensure long-term stability. This package leans on several recommendations from the neutral fact-finding report which highlights the District’s fiscal constraints, while putting in place creative solutions to support SFUSD educators.
Tentative Agreement Details:
- Certificated employees, including teachers, will receive a compensation package that includes 2% raises this year and next and additional paid work days to their calendar.
- Classified employees, including paraeducators, will receive a compensation package equivalent to 8.5% over two years, with 4% in Year 1 and 4.5% in Year 2. Paraeducators who are providing specialized medical services will also receive an additional ongoing 5% salary increase. Classified employees will also receive an additional floating holiday.
- SFUSD will fully fund family health benefits at Kaiser rates for UESF employees starting on Jan. 1, 2027. Meaningful relief for family healthcare will be available to eligible employees starting on July 1, 2026. The benefit will be funded by local property tax funds (QTEA).
- Security aides will be offered the opportunity to become full-time employees, which improves their eligibility for benefits.
- Special education educators will be provided with additional support to immediately provide relief. The District and UESF will collaborate on an educator working group with budget authority to improve special education programs.
“Our educators are the backbone of our school communities,” said Phil Kim, President of the San Francisco Board of Education. “The Board of Education is grateful for the tireless work of both parties in reaching a tentative agreement. As a district still in fiscal recovery, it is imperative that we find a solution that honors our educators while also ensuring long-term fiscal solvency. The Board looks forward to reviewing the proposal.”
During the strike, SFUSD prioritized student safety, continued learning and access to student wellness and support. The district organized a centrally coordinated operation through an Emergency Operation Center (EOC) to provide opportunities for students to continue learning through independent study, access critical services such as meals and childcare, and triage incidents. In partnership with community and faith-based organizations, and city departments including the Department of Children, Youth and Families; SF Public Libraries; and SF Rec and Park, students were able to access food, books, and care while schools were closed. Additionally, a Joint Information Center (JIC) was established to provide transparent, timely, and accessible essential information to SFUSD families, staff, students, and the public.
Schools and Central Office Reopening
SFUSD schools and administrative offices will reopen to all staff on Feb. 13, 2026 as a transition day, and all employees should return to their assigned work site. SFUSD schools are still closed to students on Friday, Feb. 13. Per the district academic calendar, schools and offices are closed for Presidents Day on Monday, Feb. 16, and schools are closed for Lunar New Year on Tuesday, Feb. 17. SFUSD will resume normal operations on Wednesday, Feb. 18 and schools will be open to all 49,000 students.
Next Steps
The tentative agreement must be ratified by the UESF membership and finalized upon a vote by the San Francisco Board of Education at an upcoming public Board of Education meeting.
