Mission Voices Summer (MVS) gives youth artists ages 14-19 the opportunity to explore relevant social and personal issues through a visual arts intensive program that results in a group exhibition on view to the public. MVS teaches youth to use the visual arts as a tool to express their creative voices and to make a visual statement about their ideas, interests and ambitions. MVS is a chance for youth to realize their fullest potential in conceptual artistic practice in tandem with individualized creativity.

Lowell Student Wins Fracchia Essay Prize

Meet Eliana Molofsky, a Lowell High School rising sophomore who won second place in the San Francisco Historical Society Fracchia Prize essay

"I am so glad that my teacher Ms. Hanlon-Young introduced the Fracchia essay to our ethnic studies class because it got me thinking about the history of Parkside, the neighborhood where I grew up and which shaped my life in many ways. My essay focuses on how the development of public transportation, including the L train line, affected the urban development of Parkside."
2025 African American Honor Roll Celebration

On May 19, hundreds of students, families, and special guests, including Superintendent Dr. Su and SF Board of Education Commissioners, honored high achieving elementary, middle, and high school students at the African American Honor Roll Celebration. Balboa High School's Annual Pathway Showcase

On May 15, Superintendent Dr. Su joined in a celebration of Balboa High School's career pathways programs:

  • Game Design Academy (GDA): Bringing together coding, digital art, and storytelling to create immersive interactive experiences.
  • Law Academy: Exploring justice, public policy, and civic engagement through mock trials, research, and community partnerships.

  • Wilderness Arts and Literacy Collaborative (WALC): An interdisciplinary, outdoor-based program combining science, environmental justice, and the humanities.

  • PULSE (Peer Unified Leadership, Support, and Engagement): A leadership pathway that cultivates peer mentors, community builders, and youth advocates.

  • Creative Arts for Social Transformation (CAST): Fusing visual arts, media, and social justice to empower students as creative change-makers in their communities.

The event featured interactive exhibits, student-led presentations, and real-world projects developed in partnership with industry and community organizations.

Guests toured student exhibits — including a 9th–12th grade art exhibition — engaged with educators and community partners, and heard directly from students about their experiences in career-connected learning pathways. The evening also featured live performances by students from the DJ Audio Production class.

Wellness Tip From a Yoga Teacher

Summer is an ideal time to work toward a more challenging yoga posture, little by little. Even the splits are possible with daily work! Lizard pose (above) is a great hip opener that doesn't require a lot of practice.

From Downward-Facing Dog, step your right foot outside your right pinky finger. Bring your forearms to blocks, stay on palms, or come down to your forearms. Keep the right knee close to the right shoulder. Look forward to keep the chest and neck long. Hold and breathe. Repeat on the other side.

Exercise within your limits. Never force, strain, or practice through pain. Seek medical attention and advice as appropriate.
STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
#WeAreSFUSD

“At Washington, I found more than a school — I found a reason to act. Through my work with the district on language access, inclusive messaging, and student representation, I’ve seen firsthand how powerful it is when students are trusted to lead. SFUSD gave me the chance to turn ideas into action, and to make sure every student — no matter their background or language — feels seen, heard, and valued.”
