San Francisco (May 7, 2025) - Spark SF Public Schools, the official nonprofit partner of the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD), will celebrate its 10-year anniversary, “Our City, Our Schools,” on May 7, 2025, at the Asian Art Museum with an evening honoring a decade of partnership, progress, and purpose in public education.
Since its founding in 2015, Spark has raised over $140 million to champion some of SFUSD’s most critical student initiatives—ensuring every child in San Francisco has access to a world-class public education and the opportunity to realize their full potential.
“Spark was founded on the belief that our city’s children deserve more than hope—they deserve action,” said Ginny Fang, President of Spark SF Public Schools. “Ten years later, the results are clear: when a city rallies behind its public schools, transformation is possible.”
Thanks to the generosity of Spark’s donor community supporting key SFUSD initiatives, notable outcomes over the past decade include:
- 517,000+ students supported since 2015
- 100% increase in girls enrolled in computer science courses
- 400%+ increase in high school students participating in paid SFUSD internships
- $16.3 million raised for COVID relief, resulting in 7.3 million meals served and 48,000 devices distributed
- Mental Health Wellness Centers in every SFUSD middle school, supporting 8,500 students
- 82 school cafeterias redesigned, leading to a 200% increase in breakfast and lunch participation
- Universal access to computer science courses across SFUSD
- 400+ aspiring teachers supported through credentialing programs
- 2,000+ students experiencing homelessness and at-risk students and families supported each year
This milestone event is not only a celebration—it’s a call to action. Proceeds from the evening will support Spark’s bold new literacy campaign,
Ready, Set, Read!, a $5 million, three-year initiative to support SFUSD’s efforts to dramatically improve student literacy across the district. These efforts focus on ensuring every child is reading at grade level by third grade—a critical benchmark for lifelong learning and academic success.
The anniversary event’s theme, “Our City, Our Schools,” recognizes the collective responsibility we all share in supporting San Francisco’s public schools. It is a reminder that investing in our schools is more than a commitment to our children’s future—it’s an investment in a thriving, vibrant San Francisco today.
“We are so grateful for the generosity of Spark and its donors. As we look ahead, we remain focused on what matters most—student learning and opportunity,” said Dr. Maria Su, SFUSD Superintendent. “With the support of the greater San Francisco community, it is together that we will write the next chapter of success for public education in San Francisco.”
When our schools achieve excellence, our families stay and prosper, our businesses invest, our social fabric grows stronger—and our next generation of leaders takes shape.
