Happy Asian American & Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Heritage Month!
So many MAY events happening and excited students are able to participate and school sites are celebrating all month long! In addition to educator aligning lessons plans this month, below are a few SFUSD school sites - date and times for AANHPI Heritage Month assembly! If your child attends any of these schools, administrators will be sending out flyers soon.

In partnership with SALT Association, Legacies of the Pacific and Visitacion Valley Middle School, this will be a historical event! Join us during the procession and ceremony! On May 2nd, in honor of AANHPI Heritage Month - Rosa Parks ES & Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy will be hosting and celebrating with students and staff with cultural stories, performances and storytelling! Flyer for more information on times of events at each school site! Shout out to Verna Castro, Meri Veavea and Glenn Castro for coordinating these events! |

On Saturday, April 26th - Each & Every Book Club held their event of the semester at the SF Main Library Fisher's Children Center, 2nd Floor! This event is part of the promotion of literacy and building literacy skills with family. Facilitated by UrsulaAnn Siataga, 30 students and families learned various languages and how to say Hello or Good Morning! Ms.Siataga did a read-a-loud of the book, Teach Me Samoan: 31 Daily Words by Gerard Aflague. Students then had a chance to choose a book from the bookshelves and bring to Parent/Guardian to read together. Parents/Guardians then were able to color selected coloring templates paper with their children as their child names the colors used. Lunch was provided by Hawaiian Drive-Inn! Thank you AAALI | AAPAC & FASI | MAC for continued and consistent literacy activities in support of our district's literacy goals for our students! A few photos above. |

On April 13-15, was the annual Pacific Islander Violence Prevention Mana Summit! At Crowne Plaza in Foster City - many came to hear Youth Voice, Community Voice and great panel discussions about Wellness, Mental Health and Personal journey and impacts of violence in the Pacific Islander community. 3 days with many great speakers - clergymen, clinicians, , athletic, coaches, county employees, public safety staff, and those in entertainment industry gave amazing perspective and inspiration. |

On April 9th, Matua Advisory Council Board met with Superintendent Dr. Maria Su. Dr.Su was able to share updates similar to presentations shared during townhalls and she left plenty of time for answering any questions and concerns from parents/guardians and Pacific Islander community members. Questions asked by Parents/Guardians and Community members covered Special Education Services, Undocumented students, In-school incidents, and staffing. Ms.Tami Beau was able to capture all the questions, and Dr.Su reassured attendees of her priorities in filling classroom teacher vacancies and that the district progressing through addressing 113K budget defict. On March 21 was the 2nd Annual Lalaga Le Ato (Weaving the Basket) Summit. This event provides workshops for rising 6th and 9th graders and their parents/guardians as they prepare for the next level grade. Keynote speaker was Dr.Saidah Leatutufu-Burch, EdD and workshops facilitators included KerriAnn Borja, Visitacion Valley, Ms.Verdin, Balboa HS, Jason Gee, Balboa HS, SCDC, Coach Fred and Alicia Jones from Enrollment. Big Shout outs to all Community Based Organizations, School Sites and Afterschool programs who have sponsored and participated! Shout outs to all the School Site Chaperones who brought the students to event! Thank you Dr.Pettiford, Erica D, Coach Wylie from Office of Access & Equity Team for a successful event! |
