Career Technical Education (CTE) at SFUSD: Law Academy at Balboa High School
The Law Academy was the very first CTE pathway. It started 29 years ago! Currently, 60 juniors at Balboa are participating in the year-long program. In the fall, students worked with lawyer mentors who taught them about resumes and job preparation. In the spring, students will prepare an extensive community service project, also with the help of mentors. In the summer, the students can apply for paid internships with a public, private, or non-profit law firm. Michael Rosenberg, the Director of the Law Academy (pictured with Balboa's mascot), says, "We talk philosophy a lot. I love when my students connect their daily lives to what we're doing in class." |

Take stock of your health behavior. Is there something you wish you did differently?
Exercise within your limits. Never force, strain, or practice through pain. Seek medical attention and advice as appropriate. |

"I've been teaching at Thurgood Marshall since 2009. We've been through many changes, but true to our mascot, the Phoenix, we always rise. I teach Senior Seminar, so I help all of our 12th graders with college applications, financial aid, scholarships, and planning for life after high school. Every time a student submits an application, they ring the bell, and the whole class cheers. It's my favorite tradition."

"As someone born and raised in San Francisco I feel connected to this population of youth the way I feel connected to a former version of myself, a chance to pay it forward to a younger version of myself. Joining the team at O'Connell makes me feel like I'm finally on the right timeline. "
-Cody Francisco Wolf Aguirre, art teacher, John O’Connell High School |

Downtown High School Seniors Share What They Love About School
"I love how united our community is at DHS and within our individual projects. Our teachers help us attain our goals and there are several resources on site that we can access."
-Naomi Candelario (left), senior at Downtown HS and member of the Wilderness Arts & Literacy Collaborative
"Something I love about Downtown and my community is how close we are as a school, the support that we have from our staff and how we get to know our classmates without distractions. I made a lot more friends here than at my previous school because of that."
