Dear SFUSD Colleagues,
It is my honor to serve as your new superintendent. Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the chance to visit our schools and meet our amazing educators and staff. I am inspired by how each of you show up for our students every day. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to hear your thoughts, concerns, and hopes for our students and our schools, and look forward to meeting with more of you in the weeks ahead.
As we reflect on the recent presidential election results, we recognize that this is a time of change and transition for our nation. I want to assure you that here in SFUSD our focus remains steadfast on creating supportive, inclusive, and engaging learning environments for all of our students. I look forward to working collaboratively with you in support of our students.
As you may know, we are facing tremendous challenges related to our budget. While I will not sugarcoat the difficulties ahead or provide any shortcuts, I am committed to finding solutions for our budget issues so our educators can focus on providing quality instruction to our students and Central Office leaders can focus on operational effectiveness. With your support, I am confident that we can overcome our challenges and emerge as a stronger school district. Together, we can build a brighter future for our schools.
Thank you for your ongoing dedication to our students.
In community,
Dr. Su |

Inclusive Schools Week - Dec. 2-6, 2024
Every year SFUSD staff, families, and students celebrate Inclusive Schools Week. It is an important opportunity for school sites across the district to focus on ways to deepen the sense of belonging for students who are served by IEPs and all students and community members who are marginalized. This year's theme is "Every Voice Matters."
The Community Advisory Commitee (CAC) for Special Education is asking sites to take their Inclusion Quiz by Nov. 22 and then commit to implementing 1-2 new initiatives to improve inclusion in their school community. More resources:

November is National Homeless Youth Awareness Month
In 2007, Congress recognized November as National Homeless Youth Awareness Month to raise awareness of youth homelessness. This month is a time to recommit to meeting the needs of children and youth experiencing homelessness and acknowledge the important role education can play in preventing and ending homelessness among young people.
Learn what schools can do to raise awareness, connect families to resources, and promote McKinney-Vento Act rights:
-
Distribute the housing survey: If your school has not distributed the survey this year, this is a great opportunity.
-
Promote resources to students and families: Connect students and families to community resources and emergency shelters or access points.
-
Build Your Expertise: watch recorded trainings on the McKinney-Vento Act and review the SAFEH website and SAFEH Portal to learn about district efforts.
-
Promote McKinney-Vento Act Rights to students and families: Use this email (safeh@sfusd.edu) to request copies of SFUSD’s McKinney-Vento Act posters to post in main offices and hallways or print the copies listed in the next section.
-
Request the SAFEH team visit your school’s coordinated care team (CCT) for technical assistance and consultation.

Bond Program Updates
San Francisco voters appear to have passed Proposition A, a $790 million general obligation school bond measure, according to preliminary results. The passage is subject to final certification from the San Francisco Department of Elections.
Prioritization investment categories for the 2024 bond include school modernizations, core functionality, student nutrition services, technology, security, and schoolyard outdoor learning. For a more complete outline of the 2024 Bond goals and scope commitments, check out the Bond Report on the program’s website.
The 2024 bond will build on the voter-approved bond measures in 2003, 2006, 2011, and 2016, which have funded improvements at every single school in the district. The 2011 and 2016 bonds completed 44 school modernizations, with four currently in progress as the program spends down funding from its last bond sale in 2022. Read the press release. |
