San Francisco (August 20, 2024) - The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) continues to serve one complete breakfast and one complete lunch at no cost to students in the 2024-2025 school year. Supper is also offered at no cost to any youth 18 and younger through participating after school programs. Each breakfast, lunch, and supper is a balanced meal option with fresh fruit and vegetable options. Visit sfusd.edu/schoolfood to see which sites offer supper.
Student Nutrition Services is committed to providing students the equitable support they need to succeed in the classroom and beyond, by keeping them nourished along the way. View the menus offered at each site at sfusd.edu/menus.
Families can now submit the 2024-2025 SFUSD Multipurpose Family Income Form for the new school year. Visit sfusd.edu/MFIF for steps to submit the Multipurpose Family Income Form online. The application is available in English, Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, Tagalog, and Vietnamese.
Effective July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025, all children are eligible for free meals regardless of their financial circumstances, however, if the household income is less than or equal to the federal guidelines shown below, students may qualify for other benefits related to their current income level.
Households do not need to turn in the SFUSD Multipurpose Family Income Form when the household receives a Direct Certification letter saying that all children automatically qualify for free school benefits when any household member receives benefits from CalFresh, CalWORKs, or FDPIR. Children who meet the definition of foster, homeless, runaway, or enrolled in the migrant education program and children enrolled in their school’s Head Start program are eligible for free school benefits. Contact Student Nutrition Services if any child in the household is not on the Direct Certification letter. The household may notify Student Nutrition Services if they do not want to receive free or reduced school benefits.
Breakfast and lunch are free to all students, regardless of eligibility or submission. However, the SFUSD Multipurpose Family Income Forms are required to obtain the maximum benefit amount from USDA to fund school meals, school funding allocation and for families to be eligible for school benefits. For a simple and secure method to apply, use our online application at sfusd.edu/MFIF. Student Nutrition Services will let you know if your application is approved or denied for free or reduced-price meals via email.
Households may turn in an application at any time during the school year. If you are not eligible now, but your household income goes down, household size goes up, or a household member starts receiving CalFresh, CalWORKs, or FDPIR, you may turn in an application at that time. Information given on the application will be used to determine eligibility. The last four digits of the Social Security number from any adult household is not required to be eligible for school benefits.
Households that receive Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for women, infants, and children (WIC) benefits, may be eligible for free or reduced school benefits by filling out an application.Foster children are automatically eligible for free school benefits and may be included as a household member if the foster family chooses to also apply for the non-foster children on the same application. Including foster children as a household member may help the non-foster children qualify for free or reduced school benefits. If the non-foster children are not eligible, this does not keep foster children from receiving the free school benefits.
Your child’s eligibility status from last school year will continue into the new school year for up to 30 school days or until the Student Nutrition Services processes your new application, or your child is otherwise directly certified for free or reduced school benefits. If you do not agree with the decision or results, you may resubmit your application online at sfusd.edu/MFIF.
