SFUSD Insider | July 2024
SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE
Dear SFUSD Colleagues:
SFUSD Superintendent Dr. Matt Wayne

I hope you are enjoying summer and taking time to relax and recharge. There are many things happening in SFUSD even as we are on summer break -- both challenges we are addressing as a district and bright spots of continued learning among students. In this newsletter, please find the latest information about our budget; our upcoming implementation of Frontline, our new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and Red Rover, our new Human Capital Management Suite (HCM); and our Bond Program.

There is also information about the work happening right now to plan for school closures, mergers or co-locations in the 2025-26 school year. I know this is a very personal topic for all of us, and communities are eager for information. The Resource Alignment Team is working diligently and thoughtfully to bring forward a recommendation that will be shared in September 2024, as well as a transition and welcoming plan for students, families and staff who will be moving to a new campus in 2025-26. More about this is below.

Thank you for all that you do in service of students and families. Wishing you a wonderful rest of summer, and I look forward to connecting with you soon as we head into the new school year.

In Community,

Dr. Wayne

FRONTLINE & RED ROVER UPDATE
Frontline and Red Rover logos
SFUSD is transitioning from our current payroll, finance, and human resources systems – including EMPowerSF – to a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, called Frontline and a Human Capital Management Suite (HCM) called Red Rover. Learn more about the transition.

Updates from the July meeting (view recording):

All employees who will use Frontline as a "power user" must replace their current work computer with a new one. This includes Central Office staff who will work with Frontline on a daily basis. This does not include casual users such as school site staff.

SFUSD is scheduled to go live with one feature of Red Rover, substitute management, at the start of the upcoming 2024-25 school year. Training documentation is being created for administrators, clerks, educators, paraprofessionals, and substitutes.

Informational Staff Meetings

The next Frontline and Red Rover informational staff meeting will be on Friday, Aug. 9. These optional staff meetings will be held every second Friday of the month from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. All SFUSD staff are welcome to attend. Find recordings and slides from previous meetings and learn more about upcoming meetings.

RESOURCE ALIGNMENT INITIATIVE (RAI)
This summer, the SFUSD RAI team is engaged in a thoughtful process of preliminary school portfolio planning for the 2025-26 school year. SFUSD will share an update on this work at the Board of Education workshop on Aug. 27. No closures, mergers, or co-locations will be announced at the Aug. 27 Board meeting. SFUSD will share the recommended new school portfolio in September 2024.
BOND UPDATES
SFUSD's Mission Bay School is being delivered by the 2016 Proposition A Bond program. The school addresses a gap in school options in the high-growth neighborhood, with 30% of homes in the area being designated as affordable housing units. The 2024 Bond proposal puts forward significant renovations and targeted facility upgrades. The proposal also invests in healthy meals for students, technology and network improvements, outdoor learning spaces, and safe school buildings.

SFUSD Summer Internships

Natalie Gomez (below, left) and Tiffany San Jose (below, right) were two of the advisors that trained SFUSD interns this summer. On Fridays, interns were coached on topics such as professional writing, financial literacy, social capital, and safety. Ms. Natalie had students create 'Six Word Memoirs,' i.e. poems about their internships. Communications intern Anthony Cheung (below, center) made the memoir on the Post-it Note to the left.
