SFUSD Insider | May 2024
SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE
Dear SFUSD Colleagues:

Ni hao! Kamusta! Xin chào! Talofa! These are ways to say hello in Chinese, Filipino, Vietnamese and Samoan — some of the primary languages spoken by Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) students and families in our schools.

This month in May, we recognize AAPI Heritage Month to honor and uplift the many important contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders who are essential to San Francisco’s history, present and future. In SFUSD, we honor our AAPI communities each day. SFUSD also has employee affinity groups such as the Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) Racial Affinity Administrators Group and Kababayan for Filipino/Filipino-American staff.

We also celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week this month. Teaching is a profession that is like no other, and a great teacher can influence students for life. To all teachers: Thank you for bringing your best each and every day to our students so they receive the quality instruction and equitable support required to thrive.

As SFUSD transitions to a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system called Frontline and a Human Capital Management Suite (HCM) called Red Rover, we are committed to sharing timely updates with colleagues in this staff newsletter and on other district channels. You can access the latest information about the implementation on the Frontline and Red Rover Implementation Updates website.

Please keep reading this month's newsletter for updates on these topics and more.

On May 14, the Board of Education approved a resolution to place a general obligation bond on the Nov. 5, 2024 ballot. A recent report from the SFUSD Facilities Division identified significant building improvement needs in schools across the district.

The bond will provide SFUSD schools with funds to address critical facilities improvements and is the only source for the school district to make these necessary capital upgrades. Read the press release or visit the 2024 General Obligation Bond website.

Take the Housing Survey

SFUSD is administering a Housing Survey to better understand what housing resources and programs would best serve our staff. We hope to hear from all employees so the housing resources developed are responsive to staff needs.

The Housing Survey is available in EnglishEspañol, or 中文 and should take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Responses are anonymous. Last chance to take the survey is May 24.

IN MEMORIAM

Jason Wong

Department of Technology Business Systems Engineer

SFUSD joins the Department of Technology (DoT) in mourning the loss of their beloved team member, Jason Wong. Jason worked in the DoT for over two decades and was instrumental in supporting the district’s most critical business systems. His tremendous skills, generous heart, and welcomed wit were universally appreciated by those who were blessed enough to know him.

Our thoughts go out to his family, including wife Jennie and his daughters, Jeanine and Jasmin.

Please join us in honoring and celebrating Jason’s memory. He will be deeply missed.
