Inclusive Schools Week is Dec. 4-8, and this year, the focus is on "standing up, sitting tall for inclusion." Ask your school what activities they have planned for the week, and talk to your child on how you can support diversity and inclusion every day of the year.

SFUSD and the United Educators of San Francisco (UESF) have reached a tentative agreement in contract talks, including a total compensation package increase of 16 percent over three years for teachers, paraprofessionals, and other educators represented by UESF.

Our goal is to become a carbon-neutral district by 2040, and recently our efforts were recognized by the New Buildings Institute with a Zero Net Energy School Leadership Award.

As a result of our progress in expanding access to computer science, SFUSD is the only school district to win the Champions for Computer Science award.

All schools are closed from Friday, Dec. 22, 2017 to Friday, Jan. 5, 2018 for Winter Break. SFUSD offices will be closed Monday, Dec. 25, 2017 and Monday, Jan. 1, 2018.

Lincoln volleyball makes history as first SF public school to reach state title game
Just as Mission’s boys basketball did eight months ago, Lincoln’s girls volleyball team is attempting to become the first San Francisco public school to win a state title. In fact, no San Francisco public school team had ever won more than a play-in game in the state volleyball tournament until this year.

Encouraging students to make mistakes to improve math outcomes
No one has all the answers, but in the San Francisco Unified School District, our math curriculum emphasizes teaching students to persist using a mindset that allows them to make and learn from mistakes. Often, that involves creating a classroom atmosphere that allows students to take risks with their thinking without fear of being laughed at or corrected.
