I know you know it: your role as a parent or guardian is one essential ingredient to your child’s success in school. While there are many ways to support them, showing up for parent teacher conferences is high on my list. It’s an important chance to discuss your children’s progress with their teachers. And don’t be shy! Ask about their reading level. Ask about their class participation. Ask about what you can focus on to encourage their academic growth. Read more tips here.

—Dr. Vincent Matthews, Superintendent

Check to see what schools and programs will be open, and have a great Thanksgiving break!

From new school buses to bike rides, SFUSD close to revamping kid transit
Data shows millennials and other new generations are increasingly turning to transit, walking and bicycling, but the district’s youngest students still rely on their car-driving parents to get to school. But the school district wants kids to use alternate forms of transit in the name of safety, which would also reduce traffic congestion and greenhouse gases, according to the resolution. That work is nearing its most public stage; outreach is set to begin by winter.
